Chiral Symmetry in Nuclear Physics

We propose to reformulate chiral EFT for few-nucleon systems within a coupled-channel approach with explicit ∆(1232)-isobar degrees of freedom, which was shown to result in a better convergence of the EFT expansion for nuclear forces. We expect that the resulting approach will be applicable at higher energies as compared to the standard chiral nuclear forces. In addition, it will allow us to carry out a fully consistent analysis of pion production in NN collisions. Within the framework  of  covariant density functional theory then a parameter-free calculation of chiral doublet bands in triaxially deformed nuclei is possible.
