Effective field theories for threshold phenomena

N. Brambilla (TUM) / Y. Jia (IHEP)

Summary

A plethora of exotics X, Y, Z and heavy pentaquark states have been (and keep being) observed at
collider experiments at CERN, B and tau-charm factories, and will be searched for at the
upcoming PANDA experiment at FAIR. The aim of this project is to develop a QCD derived
Nonrelativistic Effective Field Theory (NREFT) description of the region at and above the strong
heavy quarkonium decay thresholds where the XYZ states have been observed and where many
new degrees of freedom (glue, heavy-light mesons, light quarks) become dynamical, differently
from the case of standard quarkonium below threshold.
